KG’s 3Qs: January 2021

At the beginning of each month, I pick 3Qs – a question, a quote, and a random Q – that I enjoyed or pondered over during the previous month. Join me for a few Qs:

Question

“How can I even more enjoy and appreciate this as a gift right now?”

My husband, Seth, sent this to me in mid-January after seeing it in a Tim Ferris email. At the time, I was feeling a little low. Around the same time, I realized that within a three week time, I had gone through major job transition, celebrated Christmas, welcomed the New Year, attempted to goal set for a year of unknowns, sent my children back to school during a pandemic, and watched an insurrection on the nation’s capital. It was A LOT, and it was ok to be a little down. This question was a reminder to be grateful and a lesson that it’s good and healthy to see even the low points of life as gifts to enjoy.

Quote

“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.”

– Charles Spurgeon

I had heard this one before, but I was reminded of it again while reading Mark Batterson’s new devotion in the Bible App (read something similar). Again, January was a challenging month, but it was an opportunity to get rely on God, rest in His goodness, and await my next steps. Sometimes it felt like I was drowning in the wave rather than kissing it, but either way, I had the Rock.

Random Q – Queen

“For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.”

Amanda Gorman

This month’s random Q stands for queen, and it goes to Amanda Gorman. The world knew that the United States was getting a new president on January 20, but we had no clue that we were getting a new icon. I stood in awe in my living room as Amanda Gorman recited her inaugural poem and laughed to myself as tears unexpectedly streamed down my face. It was a moment I didn’t know I needed. I can’t wait to see what she brings us in the future.

That’s it for KG’s 3Qs for January 2021. See you next month.
